This project in Winkel, Switzerland, proposes a small but meaningful extension to an existing single-family home, combining a winter-garden-like veranda with an outdoor swimming pool within a highly sensitive landscape. The intervention is defined by a strong commitment to natural and almost archaic construction methods: dry stone retaining walls (Trockenmauer) hold the garden and swimming pool extension, while rammed earth walls support the new roof structure, creating a grounded and monolithic spatial condition. Timber elements are used throughout the pavilion, shaping structure, openings, and atmosphere, while framing the astonishing views toward the valley and integrating the surrounding landscape as a continuous visual presence. The site offers a rare sense of privacy, surrounded by a peaceful green area with no direct neighbours, reinforcing the relationship between architecture and landscape. The design also incorporates a permaculture garden, where the family intends to produce food themselves. The significant level difference between veranda and garden is transformed into a terraced hortus-like landscape, structuring a continuous spatial sequence that merges cultivation, movement, and dwelling. Conceived for a young family with a small child, the project integrates subtle playful elements—such as a swing, trampoline, and hammock—embedded within the pavilion to support informal everyday use. In this way, the extension becomes a quiet and tactile mediation between house, garden, and landscape, where architecture and terrain merge into a single living environment.
